Salut design aficionados! My name is Igor and I am writing the Germany based Happy Interior Blog covering all topics that inspire me to a happy home. I am very happy that Si asked me to entertain you with some interior topics while she is off to one of the most exciting cities ever - Paris. 

Currently I am in love with plants in interiors. I've got myself one cactus and a succulent, plus I brought an aloe vera plant all the way from the Canary island Fuerteventura. But I digress. Here are a few inspirations of plants in interiors.

What is it about plants in interiors? First of all, plants add a touch of nature into our homes connection our inner world to the outer environment. The fresh, airy look works perfectly in any kind of interior design: from white washed Scandinavian spaces, over minimalistic design lofts to eclectic homes with a vibrant mix of design and decoration elements.

And there is no excuse for not including living plants into your happy home, too. Yes, believe me, there are 'no green thumb' plants, too. Just take me as an example. Succulents and cacti are happy with the least attention ever. Oh, and they do look so fancy. Right now. Or as I would put it in French: Très tendance!

Hi everyone! Kirsten Grove from Simply Grove here! I am so honored to be guest posting for Si today. She has created a beautiful thing here at French By Design.

I am an interior stylist based in Boise Idaho. I also write my blog as well as blog for others including Better Homes and Gardens. You could say that I am very passionate about interior design so talking about it is sheer delight.

With spring here and summer just around the corner, I am craving greenery. I love what plants add to a space. You can never go wrong with green and you can never go wrong with anything living. Adding a plant to your buffet, shelves or dresser top creates an instant organic detail that can't be duplicated by anything else. Also, if you don't have a surface to display plants, there are a variety of cool hanging pots available. However you choose to spread green love, have fun and get creative!

Guest Post | My Paradissi : With a blue attitude

Hello dear FrenchByDesign readers! I'm Eleni from My Paradissi and I'm here to fill up for sweet Si, as she is enjoying her beloved Paris.

I know that Si is a fan of blueand I really can't find a more soothing and refreshing color for myself either. A grayish tone with a dash of lilac in it is a great choice for the interiors as it is an almost neutral background to play with yet bold enough to create a space with attitude.

I can't tell you how much I love the blue painted hallway combined with the black and white checkers floor and that amazing wall to wall glass cabinetry. What do you think of this color? Would you choose it for your place?

2013 is the year when we see green and greenery everywhere. First of all Pantone's emerald green, the lush and radiant colour of the year 2013. The green nature also continues to inspire and we decorate our homes with large plants, branches and potted flowers. 

Finally, the urban gardening trend is stronger than ever this year. Pots, balconies or rooftops, no surface is too small to grow your own vegetables and add a little greenery to the cityscape!

Je vis à Paris depuis de nombreuses années et même si j'adore le mode de vie à la française, je suis restée fidèle à mes origines suédoises lorsqu'il s'agit de design. La Maison d'Anna G. est un blog sur le design et la déco scandinave, et aussi une boutique en ligne où l'on trouve une sélection triée sur le volet de jolis accessoires scandinaves pour la maison (oui, on livre partout dans le monde!).

2013 est l'année où le vert et la verdure sont partout. D'abord le vert émeraude de Pantone, la couleur luxuriante et radieuse de l'année 2013. La nature verte continue aussi à nous inspirer et on rajoute des grandes plantes, des branches et des pots de fleurs à notre déco. 

Enfin, le jardinage urbain est une tendance qui se confirme plus que jamais cette année. En pot, sur le balcon ou sur le toit, aucune surface est trop petite pour faire pousser ses propre légumes et rajouter un peu de verdure au paysage urbain!

Last week's post on displaying art got so much attention and I received a lot of questions from you, readers, asking me how to display personal photos in original ways as well. So I compiled my "best of" selection for you. Displaying photos, whether black and white or colorful ones obeys only one rule : have fun and be creative!

Kids Playrooms

I mean, yes, I'm passed the age of playroom, but I'd hang out in any of these an entire afternoon, wouldn't you? Fun, colorful, but quirky and unexpected, these playrooms are uber-cool!

Trend Alert : Recycled beds

In love with these raw wooden beds, made out of recycled planks of wood. They have so much personality and add warmth to any room. Which one is your favorite?

Perfectly imperfect spaces

Today, I'm loving these raw and imperfect spaces and pieces, miles away from all white and perfectly styled or arranged pictures we're constantly bombarded with - don't get me wrong, I love an all pretty organized space as well, but somehow, these interiors with their raw and not so perfect elements have more soul, more life to them. And look at this all-white kitchen in picture 2 where the raw wall was kept, as a "clin d'oeil" to the space's past life? Doesn't this kitchen have more personality all of the sudden?

Aujourd'hui, j'aime ces intérieurs bruts et imparfaits, à des années lumières de tous ces espaces blancs et épurés que nous inonde le monde de la déco - bon, j'aime aussi les espaces blancs et épurés, mais ces intérieurs bruts ont un relief, une âme et une histoire à raconter, signes d'un vécu à partager. Et regardez donc cette cuisine toute blanche dans la 2ème photo : une partie du mur d'origine a été conservée, dans son jus, comme une ode à l'histoire de ce lieu. La cuisine n'a-t-elle pas d'un seul coup plus de personnalité?

Inspiring kitchens

Sometimes, you come across a kitchen that makes you want to cook all day. As I was doing some research for a client about inspiring kitchens for a remodeling project, I saved these kitchens in my favorite folder. I'm falling for the grey one, with its rescued wooden window shutters repurposed in kitchen cabinet doors, its concrete island and Tolix stools - but let's be real, I'd take any of these gorgeous kitchens. How 'bout you? Which one of these kitchens steals your heart?

De temps à autre, je tombe sur une cuisine qui me donne envie de passer la journée aux fourneaux. Alors que je faisais des recherches sur le web pour une cliente qui refait sa cuisine, j'ai gardé ces photos de cuisine dans mon fichier "favori". Je crois bien que ma préférée est celle dans les tons gris [ci-dessus], avec ses portes de placards de cuisine en bois de volets récupérés, l'îlot en béton teinté, ou les tabourets Tolix - mais en toute franchise, je prendrais n'importe laquelle de ces superbes cuisines. Et vous, laquelle est votre préférée?

Joyeuse Saint Valentin! A vous dire vrai, je n'ai jamais été une grande fan de cette fête. Mais à travers mes filles, et depuis notre arrivée aux Etats Unis, j'ai découvert que la Saint Valentin n'était pas uniquement la fête des amoureux. C'est aussi ici l'occasion de montrer à ceux et celles qu'on apprécie l'importance qu'ils ont à nos yeux. Mes filles font des petits cadeaux symboliques à leur bff's* [*best friends forever - ou traduit littéralement "meilleures amies pour la vie" si vous rappelle quelque chose de votre enfance ;-)]. J'aime beaucoup cette idée. Alors je vous souhaite une bonne fête, mes Valentin et Valentine, parce que vous comptez beaucoup à mes yeux, mes chers lecteurs et lectrices. Winter blues to love

With this winter weather - it's all grey and rainy outside - I find myself looking more and more at paradise islands pictures, sea water blues and far away dreamy locations. So today, my mix is all about winter blues we'd all like to have. Ah, spring, where are you? I long for you so bad!

Avec cet hiver qui n'en finit pas - il fait tout moche dehors, gris et pluie - je me retrouve de plus en plus à baver d'envie devant des images d'îles paradisiaques et de locations lointaines au soleil et au bord de l'eau. Ah, I am not feeling so good. It turns out winter blues may not be my problem after all, but I may be cooking a winter bug as well. My body is achy, tired, and this weekend is greatly welcome. Uh, je ne me sens pas au top. Il s'avère que mon petit blues d'hiver n'est pas mon seul souci, je crois que mon corps est en train de se battre avec un méchant petit microbe d'hiver. J'ai des courbatures, je me sens fatiguée, vidée. Le weekend est donc vraiment le bienvenu. More tile love

I love these modern or remodeled interiors that use old tiles or vintage looking tiles. What a great way to add character to a space, don't you think? Which one is your favorite? I think I like them all. Special crush for the kitchen backsplash tiling in black and white "quilting" effect.

J'aime ces espaces modernes ou rénovés qui ont su garder un carrelage ancien - ou dans certains cas un carrelage neuf d'apparence ancienne. Quelle belle façon de rajouter du caractère à un intérieur. Lequel est votre préféré? Moi, je les aime tous. Petit coup de coeur pour la crédence de cuisine en noir et blanc, effet patchwork.

Je vous souhaite un excellent weekend. Qu'avez vous prévu? Ici le temps est tout gris. Je commence à avoir le blues d'hiver. Mais le gris peut aussi être tellement joli, comme ici, sur ces photos. Kitchen love

I could definitely cook in any of these 4 kitchens. I think I like them equally because each of them incorporates in its own way a vintage or raw element that adds character and does not make it a showroom kitchen - I am not a fan of showroom kitchens. Which one is your favorite, and why? I'd love to hear your opinion!

Je pourrais cuisiner dans n'importe laquelle de ces cuisines. Je les aime toutes, parce qu'elles incorporent chacune à leur propre façon un élément vintage ou une matière "brute" qui leur confère tout leur caractère. Aucune de ces cuisines n'est une cuisine "show-room" - dont je ne suis vraiment pas fan.  Laquelle est votre préférée, et pourquoi? J'aimerais tellement avoir votre avis!

Color mix : Emerald green

So, Pantone announced a few weeks back that the 2013 color of the year was Emerald Green. So many people have strong opinion about this color - and not good strong opinions apparently. So I decided to gather the best pics I could find to give you some ideas of how to use this color in your interior. Whether you go full gear with a big piece of furniture or an accessory, emerald green can truly bring the nature and sense of chlorophyl inside your space {or wardrobe, but I'll stick with earrings for now - but then again, last year I swore I would never ever wear any tangerine tango, but I ended up buying a running top in that exact color...}

Vous le savez sûrement déjà, Pantone, LA référence universelle dans le monde de la couleur, a récemment annoncé le vert émeraude comme couleur de l'année 2013 - après le tangerine tango/corail l'année passée. Beaucoup d'entre vous ont une opinion tranchante sur cette couleur - et même une opinion à tailler au couteau! Alors, j'ai rassemblé une sélection des meilleures images et produits que j'ai pu débusquer pour montrer l'utilisation du vert émeraude en déco. Que vous y alliez franco avec un intérieur tout vert ou par touches avec des accessoires vert émeraude ici et là, ce vert ramène clairement la nature et la chlorophylle dans un intérieur {ou une tenue vestimentaire, mais je me limiterai à des boucles d'oreilles pour le moment - encore que l'année dernière, j'ai juré de ne jamais porter de corail, et j'ai fini par acheter un top dry-fit de running dans cette couleur, comme quoi...}
